Ways to Reduce Paper Towel Use.
A common waste product in homes, paper towel, has become increasingly difficult to obtain due to higher demand during the current pandemic; this has led many to pursue reusable, and subsequently more environmental solutions.
Paper towel is often used in several key areas within the home, and can be supplemented by reusable options, which for some is increasingly necessary during the ongoing pandemic.
To limit the need for paper towel, when safe, reusable options, such as reusable cloths, can be placed in areas where disposables are most common ( in bathrooms and kitchens, for example ). By leaving these reusables in convenient locations, paper towel can be saved for only essential tasks. These containers of clean cloths can be washed and replenished as required ( pictured ); as a result, obtaining paper towel frequently from a store is not necessary.
Dating your paper towels if scarce supply is of concern can provide a check on overuse, especially with reusable alternatives.
Strategies to reduce the use of paper towel, often used out of convenience, can be achieved by placing the paper towel in a closed cabinet or other less visually present locations within easy reach to allow for the practice of reusable habits, given the environmental alternatives would be placed more prominently.
If paper towel is extremely scarce and personal stores low, a form of rationing, in which one determines the maximum number of rolls one can use on a regular basis ( weekly, for example ), and designate the respective rolls accordingly; this will allow for the tracking of use use and should extend the present stock for a longer period of time.
By using these strategies, the ability to eliminate paper towel can be achieved and habitual use can be overcome.
